I’ve owned Cherry Pie Social for nearly two years now. One thing I hadn’t counted on in this new endeavor is the ebb and flow of workload. There are times when we have plenty of independent contractors to help with the overflow and there are other times when we have to scale back.
So, how do you find extra help when the business is rocking? Here are the different ways I find awesome social media contractors:
1. Local colleges — I contact the “Career Development” office of all the local colleges. Here in Santa Fe, I’ve had tremendous success finding interns through the Santa Fe University of Art & Design.
2. CraigsList — You have to beware of scam artists on CraigsList but if you have a positive attitude and don’t mind weeding through the fake responses you get, you can find awesome people!
3. My friend Scott hires through Upwork (oDesk and Elance have both merged into it). He says, “I can usually eliminate about 80% from their response, another 80% from the interview (a few written questions), then give the rest a small, low-risk task and see how they do. We have several great workers from $5-$10/hr. as a result.”
I hope this information is useful to you! Happy hiring!
